Author Guidelines

Manuscript submission guidelines

Manuscripts may be submitted free-format for the peer review process, as long as they are following a consistent style and count between 3,500 to 6,000 words including references, tables, and figures (where each table and figure in the main paper counts for 250 words). However, preferably, submissions follow the guidelines specified in the author template. All submissions have to adhere to this template upon (conditional) acceptance. For any additional aspects, manuscripts should follow the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th edition.

Please submit separately the main paper and any of the following documents (not part of the word count) and make sure they are anonymized and blinded for peer review:

  • Title and abstract (< 250 words)
  • Title page
  • Acknowledgments
  • Research funding
  • Author contributions
  • Ethical statement (if applicable)
  • Data statement (for empirical work)
  • Competing interests statement (if applicable)
  • Supporting information (e.g., accompanying appendices, instruments, datasets, preregistrations, supplementary analyses)

In addition, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following:

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it currently in the peer review process with another outlet.
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, doi/URL for the references have been provided.
  • The submitting author made sure that no author-identifying information is provided.

Proofs:

Authors will receive a PDF file with page proofs for final correction. These must be returned with corrections by the dates determined by the publication schedule. At this stage, only very minor, typographical revisions to the text and references are accepted.

Inquiries:

All inquiries should be directed towards the managing editors by sending an email to sustainabilityletters@ou.nl
